Wyke
South Western Railway (SWR) service 1L40 10:25 Exeter St Davids - Waterloo heads past Wyke, between Yeovil Junction and Sherborne with 159016 leading classmate 159009. These Class 159 units were introduced by British Rail in 1993 along the 'West of England' route between London Waterloo / Salisbury / Yeovil and Exeter and have proven to be very reliable since their introduction, with the fleet of 22 Class 159/0 3-car units maintained at Salisbury.

Wyke
1L36 09:25 Exeter St Davids - Waterloo with 159108 leading 159019 through the Dorset countryside towards Sherborne. Surprisingly there are still a few units working this route in the old SouthWest Trains livery, such as this one. Although not quite there yet, these trains are rapidly becoming some of the oldest in use on the national network at over 30 years old and as part of Network Rail's plans to decarbonise the West of England route its only a matter of time before some sort of replacement is announced?

Bournemouth
Without a doubt what will become the most photographed South Western Railway Class 455 is 455868 seen here passing through Bournemouth station on its maiden trip leading classmate 455909, and running as 5Y51 14:32 Bournemouth T&RSMD - Wimbledon Park C.S.D. Built at BREL York and introduced by British Rail from 1982 onwards, the type is now approaching the end of its working life on the South Western network out of London Waterloo, and to celebrate South Western Railway have painted 455868 in its original British Rail blue & grey livery, albeit with some modern and compliant touches. The stunning looking unit was repainted at Bournemouth depot, which has been progressively repainting the entire fleet of Class 444 and 450 units and with a finish as good as this perhaps they should expand their field of operations?

Christchurch
So here I was, stood like a scarecrow minding my own business, when out of nowhere approached a figure asking "what are you doing in my field"? Of course I knew it wasn't "his field" but he lives under the bridge further up, and eventually he buggered off, much like the Snow & Ice Treatment Train (SITT) with 66764 and 66772 that I was waiting for that was booked to run to Weymouth, but instead had terminated short and returned to Totton Yard from whence it came. So, something of a consolation prize I guess was South Western Railways Class 159 No.159007 as it heads down Christchurch bank operating 5Y14 11:44 Salisbury T&RSMD - Bournemouth T&RSMD departmental move. Bournemouth undertake C4 exams on these units which involves new wheels and new air and fuel tanks.
