Corfe Castle
The final train from Swanage, on the final day of the Swanage Railway's 2019 diesel gala, and 26007 passes Townsend Bridge on Corfe Common hauling the 17:39 Swanage - Norden in some stunning light.
The Class 26 is now on hire to Swanage Railway until September.
Thanks must go to all involved for bringing us yet another fantastic Swanage Railway diesel gala.

Corfe Castle
The South Devon Railways D7535 (25183) looks superb as it approaches Townsend Bridge working the 17:15 Swanage - Corfe Castle. Even with the unfortunate loss of D4 Great Gable from the planned line-up at the last moment it has still been a great gala weekend.

Making its ascent on the 1-in-78 climb up from Tidmore Crossing to Furzebrook Sidings is D7535 working hard, and sounding great, with its 5-coach train, and 97205 on the rear, the train now heading back as the 15:32 River Frome Viaduct - Swanage.

The view from Holme Lane bridge, near Stoborough, which not so many years ago would have been near on impossible due to the amount of trees and vegetation. However, since transfer of this section of line from Network Rail to Swanage Railway great efforts have been made, with very little money, and only a small amount of manpower to transform it into the wonderful scene it is today. Here 97205 (31163) passes by in beautiful weather with the 14:39 Swanage - River Frome Viaduct, D7535 being the rear tail gunner.

The 'star of the show' at the Swanage Railways 2019 diesel gala was a close run thing (in my opinion) between 26007 and D7535. But who doesn't love red-stripe Railfreight, and that was one of the deciding factors (for me) as to which loco was 'star of the show'. Here is 26007 passing Holme Lane bridge heading down towards Furzebrook Sidings, looking and sounding superb, with the 14:32 River From Viaduct - Swanage service, D6515 Lt Jenny Lewis RN can just be seen on the rear beyond the bridge.

Clear cloudless skies looking south towards Swanage, but we were right on the edge of the cloud cover to the north of us, in fact it was touch-and-go with the sun at times. Thankfully though the Swanage Railway's resident Class 33/0 No.D6515 Lt Jenny Lewis RN makes its way along 'the extension' in perfect weather with the 13:39 Swanage - River Frome Viaduct.

Next up, 50007 Hercules with 2C12 14:15 Swanage - Corfe Castle shuttle near New Barn. For the 2019 diesel gala a new timetable had been drawn-up comprising of an hourly service from Swanage to the Swanage Railway / Network Rail boundary, the train being top & tailed from / to Corfe Castle and the boundary, and an hourly service from Swanage to Corfe Castle. From a lineside perspective it seemed to work quite well on the whole.

My main target, and the reason for spending a bit of time at Harmans Cross station, was to record 73119 Borough of Eastleigh on its only solo outing away from the Class 59. Harmans Cross station was the obvious location for the sun angle, and the fact the train was booked via the Down Platform, so here is 73119 Borough of Eastleigh at Harmans Cross with 2C10 13:15 Swanage - Corfe Castle.

They say its a small world, and in this case it is so true. The gent taking the photo was already in position so I didn't like to say in my best Dorset accent "oi mate could you move", and decided a little human interest might actually add to the shot? After the shot was taken we engaged in conversation, and it quickly transpired we knew each other, and worked together, although that was back in the mid-to-late 1980's / early 1990's.....what were the chances of that? So, Mr Adrian V. Paul is captured capturing 50007 Hercules upon its arrival at Harmans Cross with the 12:32 River Frome Viaduct - Swanage. Small world.

This is the first Swanage Railway diesel gala that has run a regular shuttle up to the Network boundary, the operational boundary is just south of the River Frome at PW5750 signal at 126m 77ch, however the maintenance boundary is a little closer towards Worgret Junction at 126m 61ch.
