Perth
BR blue 47524 stands in for the more regular Class 47/7 at Perth hauling a push-pull set with the DBSO leading.

Holyhead
A period when the North Wales coast line was experiencing rare and unusual traction due to non availabilty of Class 37/4's.
Dutch liveried 37058 stands at Holyhead having arrived on 1D57 05:06 Birmingham New Street - Holyhead.
New to traffic on 10 October 1962 the locomotive was finally scrapped on
29 April 2009 after some 46 years of service, including a spell in France.

Liverpool Lime Street
25279 and 08532 stand in one of the middle sidings at Liverpool Lime Street. The Class 25 was withdrawn from BR service on 15 March 1987 and eventually brought for preservation, it is currently based on the Great Central Railway (Nottingham).

Bescot
Possibly due to prolonged use on a carriage washing plant (or similar) a very work stained 08832 is seen stabled on Bescot shed. To the left is 45077 with evidence of its pre-TOPS number 136 still visible to the left of the cab door. The Class 45 was withdrawn from BR service four months later.

Oh dear, looks like a bit of a bogie fire from 47824 Glorious Devon pictured at Poole has left this scorch mark down the body side, obviously not that bad as it awaits departure with 1M87 20:19 Poole-Birmingham N.S sleeper service. Large-logo 47552 arrives on the opposite platform.

Stratford Works
The first Class 47 to recieve the new (and original) Inter-City livery was 47487 seen here at Stratford Works. This was an early withdrawal especially for an ETH fitted Class 47 with retirement coming in December 1988 and final disposal six months later. Note the front end damage, presumably the reason for its visit to Stratford in the first place?

Yeovil Junction
Carrying the name previously carried by 47403 and then 47411 is 47503 The Geordie at Yeovil Junction on 1V09 10:03 Basingstoke - Exeter S.D.
This locomotive is now preserved and under restoration at the Colne Valley Railway. Still carrying its most recent numbering as 47771 which it carried when transferred to Rail Express Systems before withdrawal back in 2000.

Deputising for the booked Class 47 and a rare visitor to Dorset is 'slim Jim' 33209 leading 33013 in a very wintry Poole sidings before working 1M40 17:05 Poole - Liverpool L.S. These days you can't even get a direct service from Poole to the north as all cross country services start / terminate six miles away at Bournemouth; such is progress.

Eastleigh
Hard to imagine 45's were a near daily visitor to Eastleigh not so many years ago. Still with split centre headcode as opposed to the more standard marker lights 45036 propels its train back towards Eastleigh East New Yard having worked in off the Romsey line into the Marshalling Yard with 6O42 08:30 Severn Tunnel Junction. - Eastleigh Speedlink.

Basingstoke
A stranger in town with 45143 on 1V13 13:10 Waterloo - Exeter S.D standing at Basingstoke.
To celebrate the 300th Anniversary of the '5th Inniskilling Dragoon Guards' an additional notation '1685-1985' was added to the nameplates of 45143 in a ceremony performed by the Duchess of Westminster at Waterloo Station. The locomotive had worked up on the 05:48 from Exeter to get it to Waterloo for the ceremony making this a very rare working for the class and the route.

Leicester
The humble '350'. Once in there thousands, now down to a mere handful in comparison as 08908 rumbles past Leicester North signalbox. The box and associated signalling was abolished on 29 June 1986, the box being demolished on 03 November 1986. How ironic then that the very same signalling centre that replaced it a few hundred yards to the north was itself closed on New Years Eve 2011 with control passing to the East Midlands Control Centre (EMCC) at Derby.
