Northbrook
You can't say the modern railway is 'boring'? In the few hours I had been out I had photographed six different liveried locomotives, this pair of GBRf Class 73s would make it seven. Passing the fields of golden wheat at Northbrook in great light is 73965 Des O'Brien leading 1Q51 11:15 Derby RTC - Eastleigh Yard via Weymouth, trailing to the rear is 73963.

Silchester
In ever improving light and sun-angle 66199 brings 4O21 09:20 Trafford Park - Southampton Western Docks past Silchester, just a shame about the lack of load behind the loco on what was otherwise a fully loaded set. Its now been 25 years since the Class 66 was introduced by English Welsh Scottish (EWS) Railway and very few of the class now carry this original livery since DB Cargo took over operations and surely within the next year or tow this livery will finally be consigned to history?

Next up, this time 70004 hauls 4O38 09:52 Lawley Street - Southampton Maritime past this attractive location with plenty of cow parsley and rosebay willow herb lining the railway boundary.

Silchester
A location played purely on a hunch as I don't recall seeing many / any shots here is at the site of the former Silchester Crossing near Bramley (Hants). The first of three southbound liners and a fairly well loaded consist for 66539 as it passes working 4O03 10:54 Lawley Street - Southampton Maritime.

Pewsey
A rare sight on todays railway, and even back when they were a 100-strong fleet of locomotives. A pair of Class 60s hauling a revenue earning train on the Berks & Hants route was never really a common site with the advent of Class 59s, in fact did it ever happen 'back in the day'? Here DCR grey 60046 William Wilberforce leads Cappagh blue 60028 past Bedwyn with 6Z60 10:13 Willesden DCR Sidings - Merehead, 60046 being on-test leading to this rare sight. Perhaps even more incredible another DC Rail Class 60 No.60029 Ben Nevis had just passed moments before going the opposite way working 6Z52 06:25 Tytherington - Wembley Yard loaded stone train.

Next up, and another unexpected surprise, is 66419 Lionesses' Roar in the distinctive new Freightliner orange livery working 6C52 10:04 West Drayton - East Usk and yet more empty stone wagons.

The first of three similar shots here at Bedwyn as 59101 Village of Whatley passes hauling 6C31 10:14 Theale - Whatley Quarry stone empties in its distinctive Heidelberg Materials customer livery.
