Corfe Castle
Final shot, on the final day, of the final service out of Swanage, and unexpectedly it's of a pair of 50's, and not the single one shown in the working timetable. Large-logo 50049 Defiance looks great, harking back to those glory days of the 1980's, whilst inside is classmate 50031 Hood sporting the not-so-authentic Inter-City livery. In fantastic light the pair pass over Corfe Common working 2N26 17:30 Swanage - Norden service.

Hymek D7017 comes under Townsend Bridge on Corfe Common heading the 17:30 Norden to Swanage service, the final Swanage bound passenger service, on the final day of another excellent Swanage Railway diesel gala.

A slight disappointment when this came into view as Class 66 No.66783 The Flying Dustman was anticipated being on the front of 1N12 17:16 Swanage - Norden, with 73133 tucked inside. However, the GBRf driver was "over his hours" apparently so could not work the train, resulting in the ED going solo. Upon reflection though I am delighted with the shot as it has a real 1960's Southern Region vibe to it, something that would have been lost with dusty-bin on the front.

I'm sure anyone travelling in the observation saloon behind the West Somerset Railway's Hymek D7017 would be savouring the sights and sounds as it heads towards Corfe Castle with the 16:45 from Swanage to Norden.

A bizarre sight of a Class 50 sporting Inter-City livery, but had the class soldiered on for a few more years with British Rail, or if circumstances on the railway had been slightly different, then perhaps this livery could have been widespread throughout the class? This is 50031 Hood with 2N21 16:45 Norden - Swanage over Corfe Common in the final hour of the final day of the 2018 Swanage Railway diesel gala.

Until recently such a view would not have been completely possible due to the lofty up distant signal in front of the bridge. All that has since changed with the new signal in the distant, whilst 50031 Hood is about to pass under the bridge heading for Swanage. 50031 Hood is owned and operated by The Class 50 Alliance Limited and was a late substitute to the gala replacing Colas Railfreight's 37521 which was unavailable.

Creech Barrow dominates the skyline, and for anyone who walks to the top they can be afforded the most wonderful views out over the Purbecks, and towards Poole Harbour. Meanwhile, recent locomotive acquisition by GB Railfreight 66058 from DB Cargo, and re-numbered as 66783 The Flying Dustman sporting the unique Biffa livery, heads the first shuttle of the day, on the final day of the Swanage Railway 2018 diesel gala, this is 1Z40 08:15 Swanage - Wareham.

I might be a bit fussy but what a shame East Hill is not in full sun like the rest of the frame. Sadly it didn't take long for the cloud to roll in and to completely loose the sun, so for the second year on the trot I decided to throw in the towel after one shot on the first day and head home, thankfully it's only a short drive away. So, looking magnificent, and surely the 'star of the show' D7017 crosses Corfe Common on the preview day hauling the 10:00 Norden to Swanage service.
