Even in the height of the summer, you will be struggling for a sunny shot from this side of the line at this location.
However, it is a location I wanted to experiment with since last year so nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Here, 55019 Royal Highland Fusilier works the first down train of the day to Swanage.

Although a last minute replacement for Class 44 'Peak' No. 4 Great Gable, Class 20 No. 20142 proved to be a popular attraction at the 2013 Swanage Railway diesel gala.
Class 56 No. 56006 was also scheduled to appear at the gala but was unfortunately not ready in time.
However, the lack of these two locomotives in no way prevented the gala from being yet another outstanding success and the Swanage Railway diesel gala is now a major event in the diesel preservation calendar.

With the same English Electric engines as the old Hampshire unit, you could close your eyes and almost imagine one of these old units working a Wareham to Swanage service as they use to do in the British Rail days before the line was closed in 1972.
Here, the colourful combination of London Transport-liveried 20227 leading 20189 head towards Harman's Cross.

The weather may have been dull and grey but the recently painted London Transport liveries of 20189 (leading) and 20227 certainly stand out in the drab conditions.

Recreating a typical Southern scene is 33111 paired up with 4VEP No. 3417 Gordon Pettitt.
Hopefully, in the not too distant future, a scene such as this will be common place if the Swanage TC Group is successful in the restoration of its unit.

One of two Class 55s at Swanage Railway for the diesel gala, although the only one to be working over the gala period, is BR blue No. 55019 Royal Highland Fusilier hauling a Swanage-bound service.
